About

Alexandria Brehm, is a documentary, street and urban landscape photographer, based in Philadelphia. With common themes of suburbia, nature and Americana, Brehm documents the world around her through explorations of a specific environment. These environments are currently and primarily her hometown, of Bucks County, Pennsylvania and the tri-state region of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. She also explores and documents new environments throughout her travels abroad and in the United States.

Over time, Brehm found solidarity through the American landscape, and focuses on documenting the architecture of small, historical towns as a way to preserve and bring awareness to the history of the towns before modern development has the possibility to alter the vernacular landscape. The art of exploring generates much of her creativity as she finds interesting parts of towns that are significant to the town or insignificant to the town, but help tell the story of the town itself, the people and the landscape.

Brehm graduated from University of the Arts with a bachelor’s of fine arts in photography, as well as a minor in art history. During her time at the university, she experimented with more photographic mediums, such as medium and large format photography and alternative process photography, in which she incorporates into her work. As she finds true passion in creating art that is hands on, Brehm primarily shoots on medium format film, as well as using the processes of cyanotype, van dyke brown, gum biochromate, pallidum, tintypes, encaustics and other surface altering and non-silver processes to create her imagery.

As Brehm continues to explore areas and the art of photography, she aspires to be a travel photographer and journalist as well as a freelance photographer to continue to experiment with the medium. Upon completing her master’s degree in photojournalism in the future, she then aspires to teach photography and historical processes to others.

Brehm has been featured in several museums and galleries, such as the Woodmere Art Museum, Michener Museum, Gravy Studio and Gallery, Rosedale Gallery and the Sol Mendick Gallery. In the fall of 2019, Brehm’s photographs will be featured internationally for the first time, at the Pingyao International Photography Festival in Pingyao, China.
